Hey there, BBQ enthusiasts! I’m excited to share with you our experience participating in the 2023 Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) Competition at the BBQ, Boots & Brew event in Perris, CA. It was a finger-lickin’ good time, and we sure learned a ton from this fantastic experience!

As some of you may know, this was one of our first competitions with our shiny new trailer smoker, so we were fired up and ready to showcase our passion for all things barbeque. We submitted four mouth-watering entries: pulled pork, brisket, ribs, and chicken. While we didn’t walk away with the grand prize, the event was a blast, and we made some great memories and learned valuable lessons along the way.

The morning of April 28th, we arrived at the event bright and early, eager to set up our New Life BBQ station. As we unloaded our trailer smoker and prepped our meats, the tantalizing aroma of BBQ filled the air. The energy was electric, and we couldn’t help but feel the excitement that comes with the thrill of competition.

Throughout the day, we connected with fellow BBQ lovers and shared our stories, techniques, and passion for great food. It was heartwarming to see how our BBQ community came together to celebrate the art of smoking and grilling. And let’s not forget about the delicious brews that were flowing, perfectly complementing the smoky flavors of the day!

Although we didn’t win, our entries received some fantastic feedback from the judges. They appreciated the tenderness and flavors in our pulled pork, the smoky richness of our brisket, the fall-off-the-bone goodness of our ribs, and the juicy, flavorful chicken. We were thrilled to hear that our hard work and dedication paid off in the form of some tasty BBQ.

The competition taught us a great deal about the importance of presentation, flavor balance, and the nuances of the barbeque craft. We also discovered how essential it is to remain adaptable and think on your feet during a live competition.

One of the highlights of the day was meeting some of the seasoned BBQ veterans who’ve been in the game for years. They generously shared their wisdom and expertise, giving us plenty of valuable tips to up our BBQ game. We left the event feeling inspired and ready to take our skills to the next level.

All in all, our experience at the 2023 KCBS Competition was unforgettable. We’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity to participate, learn, and grow as BBQ enthusiasts. You can bet we’ll be back next year, hungrier than ever to claim a victory!

We hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into our barbeque adventure. Keep an eye out for more updates, tips, and tales from New Life BBQ as we continue our journey in the world of smoking and grilling. Until next time, stay smokin’!
